Huge crowds flocked to the Bursledon regatta to see scores of Parisian themed boats and fancy dress.
Mimes, aristocrats, painters and frogs were among the costumes people wore as they wandered round the Elephant Boatyard to watch the sailing in action.
Floats included the guillotine, invented by French physician Joseph-Ignace Guillotin, the Paris Ites, Tour de France and French bakers.
Music from Les Misérables played, while the crowds enjoyed the barbecue, beer and boats sailing along the river.
The compere of the event set off the races counting down in French. Sailors and swimmers showed their competitiveness in the races.
The site was made up with Paris buildings and architecture, including the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe – which were made by volunteers of the regatta committee.
Catherine Ewart-Smith, one the organisers of the event, said: “It’s really family fun on the water.
“It’s nice because it involves Warsash, Bursledon and Swanwick, the three main villages on the river and bringing it all together.
“You can participate at an amateur way or be more competitive. It offers something for everybody and they all enjoy fancy dress.”
