An air ambulance charity that has saved lives in the Western Wards and across the county will feature in a new ITV documentary series set on the frontline of trauma medicine.
Trauma: Level 1 will show how the crew of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance interact with the University Hospital Southampton trauma centre on a daily basis.
The series is based around powerful emotional stories and reveals the lengths that the emergency services and medical professionals go to in order to save lives.
The footage will show scenes of the air ambulance in action at similar missions to an incident in Lower Swanwick where they flew a 19 year old to hospital after a collision with a car in Bridge Road.
John Perry, the chief executive of the charity office team, said: “We hope that it will make the public more aware of the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance and the good work that our crews carry out on a daily basis.”
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance began operations in July 2007 and has undertaken more than 4,600 missions during their years of service – averaging at two to three times per day, seven days a week.
From receiving a call, the helicopter can be airborne within four minutes and can reach anywhere in Hampshire within 15 minutes and the Isle of Wight within 20.
In order to keep the air ambulance flying the charity needs to raise more than £4,000 per day, without government, statutory or national lottery funding.
The series will be broadcast on ITV on September 3 and September 10 at 9pm.
