Warsash Wasps under 8 white team were delighted to be given the Fair Play award in the Eastleigh and District Mini Soccer League at a presentation at St Mary’s stadium – home to Southampton Football Club.
There was a shield for the team and a trophy for each of the Warsash players, who play for the five-a-side team in the non-competitive league – meaning there is no recording of a league table.
Simon Stones, who manages the team, said the club will have the shield for a year and each boy will take it home to display for one month.
He added: “It’s fantastic. We didn’t expect anything and didn’t know about it either so it was a nice surprise to be invited to St Mary’s for the trophies.
“They were all excited about it and went in their kits for the presentation. As a treat we all went to Wembley last week to watch the England versus Republic of Ireland game. So it was a good week.”
