Pompey extended their unbeaten to four matches after a 1-0 win over free falling Tranmere Rovers.
Pompey, having won their last two home matches were full of confidence after a run of great form.
While Tranmere had been struggling of late, and the early League One leaders were on the the brink of dropping out of the top six.
A first half disappeared quickly with both sides cancelling each other out. But then it took just eight minutes into the second half for Pompey to take the lead.
A low Yassin Moutaouakil cross was met by David Connolly to score from two yards out.
Rovers did come close to equalising when an Ash Taylor header went just wide of Simon Eastwood’s post.
The win keeps Pompey in 22nd place but close to within three points of safety.
Next up for Portsmouth is a home fixture against 15th placed Stevenage Borough.
